The Lists of Summer
Back by popular demand, we bring you Drift’s 50 things for the perfect summer – also known as the Heat Sheet. We recommend – nay, DEMAND – you tear this puppy out, tape it to the fridge and check them off every one of them.
And don’t forget to take pictures! We would loveto see you guys out there completing the Heat Sheet, and promise to publish as many photos of you making it happen as possible (you know, except for the naked ones).
This is a sampling of the list — just a few of our favorites. You’ll actually have to pick up the damn mag to see the full one, plus our recipes for eats and drinks, books, music and road trips.
2. See if it actually is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.
10. Make swords out of a few lengths of PVC pipe, foam swimming pool noodles and a roll of duct tape. Invite friends. Sword fight in the street. (Try to keep it above the belt, people.)
16. Turn your cell phone off for the day.
23. Grow tomatoes.
27. Sleep on a beach.
30. Go fly a kite.
37. Go night swimming.
40. Quit smoking.
43. Make somebody a mixtape. Not a CD full of mp3s. Not an iPod playlist. A mixtape. A good one.
44. Make out with somebody new.
49. Wake up late, have steak and eggs for breakfast. Wash it down with a beer.
You want more? OK, fine. Here is one of our cocktail recipes too.
Watermelon/Jalapeno Margarita
Slice and seed several jalapenos (depending on how hot you want it). Take your muddler (or a garlic press) and mash those puppies until you get some juice out. Put that aside. Puree up some watermelons in a blender. Pour 3 parts puree, 2 parts tequila, 1 part lime juice and however much jalapeno juice you think you can handle, tough guy.
