Going surfing isn’t easy when you’re under the age of 16. Unless you live within bike-riding distance of the beach, scoring a ride to the water can feel like pulling teeth, what with busy parents, preoccupied older siblings, and the cost of gas preventing the license-less from frolicking freely in the summertime waves. But one day this summer, the kids will get a VIP pass when Hurley’s Rip My Shred Stick tour comes to town on July 10th. (more…)

In Hawaiian, Nalu means wave or surf.

In St. Augustine, it means a large flour tortilla filled with blackened fresh fish of the day, beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa and sour cream. Or possibly, two tacos filled with seasoned ground beef, served with beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa, and topped with sour cream. In other words, it means great food. (more…)

It’s been a wild ride for Reel Big Fish since it’s biggest hit, “Sell Out” in 1997. The punk/ska band has been through countless lineup changes, a few more hits, and it’s worst/best moment, being dropped from Jive Records. Now, Reel Big Fish is enjoying the freedom of not being on a major label as it tours in support of its latest album, Monkeys for Nothin’ and the Chimps for Free. Drift caught up with frontman Aaron Barrett as the band was preparing for the first Warped Tour show of 2008. Reel Big Fish and the Warped Tour hit St. Augustine on July 13. (more…)

At the Sunshine Bus depot at US-1 and Pope Road out on Anastasia Island, four buses idle in line, 10 minutes from beginning their 3:45 p.m. run.

About two dozen people wait. A man in a Red Lobster uniform, an elderly woman with several bags and a full-size table lamp wait. The sun’s getting hot.
